Science Fiction and Fantasy Saturday No. 7 (#sffsat) – Warlock’s Pawn

So I made a boo boo (*blushes*…sorry!) two weeks ago and signing up completely slipped my mind last week. But I’m now back to my much more respectable and responsible self. Since quite a few people already bought Tower in the Woodswhich incidentally is now available at B&N for 5% off, I thought it best to switch to my upcoming release. For past snippets of Tower in the Woods, click on the SFFSat tag at the bottom of this post.

Warlock’s Pawn is a fantasy (e) romance inspired by The Arabian Nights (emphasis on the “e”). It will be released on Amazon and ARe on March 18th, and it will probably show up at other locations approximately a month after.

This snippet starts at the very beginning.

“The warlock’s life is in your hands,” Alia heard the priestess say as they both gazed into the night. From the pinnacle of the temple’s tower, she had a clear line of sight to the Dionian palace. Her fey blood allowed her to see much farther than any human, which was how she came to bear witness to the crime that would one day bring down this desert kingdom. Despite foreseeing what was to come, her pointed ears twitched as she strained to hear words spoken by the sister she’d never known. Part of her clung to the hope that her visions would not come to pass—that Anora would pause at the cliff’s precipice and not murder the last living warlock in this realm.

  1. I’m excited to pick up Tower in the Woods and this snippet has got me just as excited for Warlock’s Pawn. Striking details and world-building. I love the twist you’ve given these old stories. They’re familiar and uniquely your own at once. Fantastic.

  2. Such a nicely moody piece! Interested to see where you go with this. I loved the detail of her pointed ears twitching. LOVELY!

  3. Great descriptions here! I already got my copy of Tower in the Woods and it’s firmly wedged in my TBR pile-up. I’m very curious to see what happens in this story. Good stuff

  4. You set up a lot in the snippet but it comes across subtlety with some great details sprinkled in. Looking forward to reading more.

  5. Intriguing. I want to know more.

  6. So much setup in so few words. I’m already hooked.

  7. “The warlock’s life is in your hands.” What a great way to hook the reader! I like how Alia’s ability to see “farther” than any human is not only physically but includes seeing the future as well. 🙂

  8. I love your voice. I’m already drawn into this.

  9. A really nice piece of set-up – catches the reader immediately, flinging him or her into the plot and instantly giving an emotional tag to hold the attention. Very nice indeed.
