Baby Steps

I had thought that I could not possibly be more committed to becoming a writer.  After all, I have churned out over 150,000 words over the past two years (in the form of 2 novels and 1 novella), at the time with no thought as to how I was going to get them read by anyone other than my husband (who makes a wrinkly face whenever I ask him to proofread).

But while I have had no qualms devoting my spare time, I have always struggled to make a monetary investment in a dream that may never yield dividends.  Case and Point: after the movers packed up our single desktop computer, I continued to write my novella using a combination of an iPad and the bluetooth keyboard (that I had rescued from the movers’ clutches in the nick of time).  My husband came back home, watched me typing furiously while I huddled over (his) iPad, and left (I did not actually notice this happen – I tend to have tunnel vision while writing).  When he came back, he plunked down a brand new laptop and said: “If you’re going to be a writer, you need something to write with.”  Since then, I have bought a pink case for my laptop (I haven’t named it yet, but I’ll get around to it), and I wouldn’t know how to live without it.

Which leads me to the point of this post – this website is perhaps the first monetary investment I’ve made in my Sisyphean attempt to become a published author  (the laptop was a gift, so it doesn’t count).  If it looks a little sparse, it’s because I’ve just started out.  Ideally, as my accomplishments pile up (or not pile up, as the case may be), this domain should start to look more like an actual website.
